![]() ![]() Houston traded away Hopkins, arguably the best WR in the game, because they didnt want to pony up all that money. not been a part of the deal it would be looked at much differently. While part of your argument rings true about teams not willing to do a deal for Hopkins if they had to surrender a 1st, you are literally ignoring the worst aspect of the deal the Texans made acquiring David Johnson and his albatross of a contract. if they can get a wideout that can replace 80% or more of his production for 1 mil and have 17 mil to spread around, they will be better off. wr is the easiest to replace in the draft. hate the coach all you want, but they cant pay tunsil, hopkins, and watson 70+ mil and build a worthwhile offense. atleast 3 teams are on record of backing out of the hopkins trade talks as soon as they heard he was going to hold out if he didnt get a new deal paying atleast 18-20 million!!! (bengals, patriots, eagles all on record) Hopkins is a great receiver, but nobody was giving a 1st rd pick and paying that type of money, bcuz they would need the high end prospect on their rookie contract if they are going to overpay a receiver. diggs fetched a first round pick bcuz he is on a team friendly contract with cap hits of 11.5 and 12 mil the next 4 years. “so sick of hearing this stupid narrative. TEXANS GAME PHOTO PLAYER WITH PONYTAIL FREEThe Texans also announced the addition of four unrestricted free agents (wide receiver Randall Cobb, safety Eric Murray, tackle Brent Qvale, and safety Jaylen Watkins), and the seven players they re-signed (linebacker Tyrell Adams, cornerback Phillip Gaines, cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III, tackle Roderick Johnson, quarterback AJ McCarron, cornerback Bradley Roby, and long snapper Jon Weeks), giving those deals the same literary weight as the trade. Then again, the Cardinals have reasons to be happy. TEXANS GAME PHOTO PLAYER WITH PONYTAIL FULLThe contrast between their reaction and the Cardinals’ was stark, as Arizona sent out a story full of excited quotes from coach Kliff Kingsbury, wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, and owner Michael Bidwill. Another way to say it would have been “We got a much worse deal for a star receiver than the Vikings did, and we’d prefer if you looked the other way and forgot about it now.” “The Houston Texans agreed to trade the following player to the Arizona Cardinals: DeAndre Hopkins, WR.” “The Houston Texans agreed to acquire the following player via a trade with the Arizona Cardinals: David Johnson, RB. Summing up a trade that involved them taking on a bad contract in exchange for one of the best receivers in the game, the Texans put it like this. The Texans just sent out a four-paragraph, 90-word - and 26 of those words were proper names and another 13 were abbreviations for the positions those proper names played - press release that summed up their transactions of the recent days, with no quotes and no fanfare. The Cardinals couldn’t wait to tell the world how excited they were to acquire DeAndre Hopkins. ![]()
